Publication Spotlight: August 20, 2024

Our lab recently published an article in Frontiers in Immunology, titled “Regulation of Bacteroides acidifaciens by the aryl hydrocarbon receptor in IL-22-producing immune cells has sex-dependent consequential impact on colitis“. In this study, we provide evidence that the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) regulates a bacteria genus (Bacteroides) in the gut during colitis. In addition, a specific species of Bacteroides (B. acidifaciens) appears to impact colitis in a sex-dependent manner, in which it worsens colitis severity in females, but not males.
